Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution

At Horn Edge Consulting (HEC), we support governments, multilateral agencies, and civil society organizations in navigating complex conflict environments across the Horn of Africa. We recognize that sustainable peace is a prerequisite for development, and our work is grounded in the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus, ensuring that conflict sensitivity is mainstreamed across all sectors, including health, governance, food security, and resilience

Our Approach & Methodologies

We employ evidence-based, participatory approaches that address both the immediate drivers and root causes of conflict. Our team of experienced facilitators and conflict advisors utilizes a suite of proven methodologies, including:

  • Conflict & Political Economy Analysis (PEA): We conduct rigorous, context-specific analyses to map conflict actors, drivers, and dynamics. This informs the design of targeted interventions that do no harm and address underlying grievances.
  • Strengthening Local Peace Infrastructure: We work with traditional leaders, women's groups, youth networks, and local government to strengthen existing peace committees and community-based grievance mechanisms, ensuring local ownership and long-term sustainability.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEAL) for Peace: We develop bespoke M&E frameworks that go beyond activity tracking to measure complex peace outcomes, such as social cohesion, inter-group trust, and perceptions of safety, using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Do-No-Harm & Conflict Sensitivity: We integrate conflict sensitivity into every stage of the project cycle, from design to M&E. We train our partners and staff to continuously assess how their interventions interact with local conflict dynamics and to adapt accordingly. Participatory Dialogue & Mediation: We design and facilitate structured, inclusive dialogue processes, including community conversations, stakeholder roundtables, and formal mediation that bring together conflicting parties to build trust and forge mutually acceptable solutions.

With deep regional expertise in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Djibouti we have successfully supported peacebuilding initiatives that have:

  • Facilitated community-level reconciliation in areas affected by resource-based conflict.
  • Mainstreamed conflict sensitivity into multi-million-dollar resilience and food security programs.
  • Trained local authorities and civil society organizations in conflict analysis and mediation skills.

By embedding peacebuilding across the development spectrum, we enable communities to not only recover from conflict but also build the resilience and social cohesion needed to prevent future violence and achieve inclusive, sustainable development.
